Ohmigoodness, we've had such a wonderful response! I have to leave the computer now, David's laying the green roof (basically a roof with a garden) and I have to get up there to help! I'll leave you with a couple pictures of the house!!!

Some favorite pictures of us!!

Answers to the Contest Questions!

I thought I'd paste the answers to the questions that got us into the finals in the first place, I'll get more pictures up soon!!

1. How long have you and your fiancee been together?
3 years 4 months 6 days

2. Do you know how to spell fiancee?
Maybe

3. How did you lovebirds meet?

I had a crush on my friend John's hot older brother for years, but we hadn't actually talked. Then one night I was out with friends, celebrating my entry into medical school. My friend John brought his hot older brother along and my sister caught the eye of said hot older brother. He starting chatting it up with her but ended up ditching my sister to chat with me. (He claims that was the plan all along). It was a nice conversation for sure, but he didn't ask for my number. 5 days later he got my number from his brother John and called to ask me out, saying... "Hey, Kirby, this is David, John's (hot older) brother... yeah, so, yeah, John tells me you climb and I was going to try to go to the wall this week and yeah, maybe you wanna go too? Well, um, yeah, just give me a call at 280-8900 if you want to, and then maybe we can grab dinner or something." I know that's what he said because I was in the library studying and I listened to it at least 4 times and I was just the happiest girl. About 2 hours later my little brother called me from the hospital in Raleigh to tell me the doctors thought he had cancer,, they were hoping it was Hodgkin's Disease. Words can't describe what it is like to hear that from your 19 year old brother. I happened to be alone while downtown Chapel Hill when I got that call, and I immediately started walking home. I saw John's car at the Trail Shop where he worked, and, seeing the shop was empty, I went in and said, "Hey John, Townsend has cancer. Tell David I'm flattered he called, but I can't call him back." John just hugged me while I cried and I went home to meet my Mom, who was driving into town. The next few weeks were blurry, between his cancer treatments and medical school, I hardly had time to fall in love with David. Somehow, he called again, and we went on more dates with my Mom and Townsend than we went on by ourselves in the first few months. David was a saint, really my angel that kept me happy and distracted us all. I'm such a lucky girl to have him. (PS--Townsend's doing great! Almost 2 years post-treatment!!)

4. Tell us the whole mushy story about how he or she proposed:

David is a green-builder, and, he recieves these incentive trips if he does enough business with the local lumber company. This year the trip was to Jamaica, at the RIU Montego Bay. David is not a planner, but, in January, he planned a camping trip for the two of us in March. I had my suspicions he'd propose there. However, he found a ring 3 days before Jamaica, and, in totally David style, he just couldn't wait. We arrived at this Purple Palace in Jamaica to wet, cold weather. There was nothing to do at the resort that catered to spring-breakers (think-liquor dispensers in the rooms) in 58 degree weather when it's raining. We ended up just cuddling and watching TV the first night and laughing about what we were going to do for the next 4 days in freezing Jamaica. He asked me to get up for the sunrise the next morning and I was adverse. However, when he was bouncing around the next morning like a 3 year old, I let him drag me out there. The beach was totally artificial, with concrete poured everywhere and a thin dusting of sand on top. I was like, omg, this is terrible, but we couldn't stop laughing about it all... and then, he was being all sentimental and I was all tired and I was like, oh baby, let's go back to bed, and I walked up behind him while he was crouched down, looking out to sea (honestly, slightly annoyed that I was up this early on a vacation), and I put my hand on his shoulder and he turned around on one knee and my heart did a couple double back flips, and then I fell to my knees too and then I was like, oh no, I've already ruined it, but then I just started crying and I was in shock and I was like, oh baby, wow, ohmigosh... is it insured? Because I lose all nice jewelery. Anyway, it was crazy... and then, I was like, we have to call our familes!! So, I spent $37 on a 7 minute phone call home. Then, this Jamaician guy was like, 'I have free minutes to America, if you come on my tour, you can use my cell phone the whole way there and the whole way back!" and we were like, OK, great! We got on the bus, without thinking much, and discovered we were going on an all day trip to Bob Marley's birthplace... not exactly what I would like to do on my engagement day. But David likes Bob and I like talking on the phone, so it worked out kinda ok... actually, it sucked, but whatever, I was in bliss, couldn't stop staring at the ring, and was able to at least call everybody.

5. Do you consider yourself a free spirit? Explain why or why not.

No. David is my free spirit. I am the grounded one. I think I'm too high-strung to be a free spirit...but I'm getting better. Dave is so like, whatever about everything that it frustrates me, but, I realize it's actually quite good, because otherwise I'd be such a square for the rest of my life. He rounds my corners and helps set my spirit free.

6. What inspires you?

The passionate physicians I have the wonderful opportunity to work with everyday. I would love to be able to dedicate my life to my patients the way they do. It is indescribable, really. I want to be smarter, more knowledgable and harder working and somehow fit in my family, my friends and my life-hobbies... some of these physicians can really do it all.

7. Pretend for just a moment that you won this contest, and we are allowing you to pick only one aspect of the wedding to have control of. What would that be?

My dress...assuming I get the groom and the guest list to be my choice by default. Oops, and, actually, I would not be happy if there were skulls and crossbones at my wedding... I don't like that style, so that's controlling too many things I think. If I had to choose from the above, the groom is what I care about most.

8. In your mind, what are the three most important aspects of a wedding?

The vows, the people, the love.

9. Do you have a Myspace or a Facebook? If so, please attach the link. We'd like to make sure we haven't seen you on Cops.

ooh, I'm not sure the link will go through... but I'm Kirby Tanner on Facebook and I promise I'll friend you as long as you're not a patient I recognize from the psych ward ....http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/profile.php?id=2716812&ref=profile

10. If you were to get a tattoo for your wedding, what would it be?

A heart on the bottom of my foot. Actually, that's cheating, because I've always wanted that. I know, BORING, but I have the perfect place for it.

12. If there is anything else you think that we should know, or if you'd like to use this space to mercilessly sell yourself to us, then go ahead:

Don't give me the wedding because my brother had cancer. He's fine now. Otherwise, the only chance I have of getting married in the next year is you guys, otherwise, the Mother is taking over (because she's paying for it) and we will seriously have monogram city. I think we may opt for the courthouse, David said he'd do that any day.
